Founded in 1864 when Captain James McAllister bought his first sail lighter to carry cargo from Manhattan to Brooklyn, McAllister has been providing unsurpassed service to the maritime community for over 140 years. The company's headquarters have been located at 17 Battery Place since 1962, overlooking historic Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty and the heart of McAllister's business' mileau, New York Harbor.
Captain Brian A. McAllister is a great-grandson of the founder and represents the fourth generation of McAllisters. He graduated from the SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering and a 3rd Assistant Engineer’s license. From 1956-1958 he served in the U.S. Navy, rising to Lt.JG and became an executive officer aboard the LST 880. Following the Navy, he sailed deep-sea with American Export Isbrandtsen Lines as 3rd Assistant Engineer. In 1959, Brian McAlllister joined the family-owned tugboat company, McAllister Brothers Inc., and switched from engineering to the deck department, sailing aboard McAllister tugboats, ultimately obtaining a Masters and unlimited Pilot’s license for the ports serviced by McAllister Brothers on the U.S. East Coast. In 1964, Captain McAllister came ashore and became the Company’s Port Captain. In 1974, he formed a group, comprised primarily of family members, which purchased McAllister Brothers in a leveraged buyout. In 1984, Brian became President of the company and in 1998 became the principle owner of McAllister Towing and Transportation Company, Inc. In 2013 Brian became the Chairman of McAllister Towing and Transportation Company.
B. Buckley McAllister, Esq. leads as President of McAllister Towing and Transportation Company. He is a member of the fifth generation of McAllisters and the son of Brian A. McAllister. Mr. McAllister has worked for the McAllister companies since August of 1998. Buckley graduated from Hamilton College cum laude in 1989 and University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1993. He is an attorney, and worked for four years as an associate for the law firm Hill Betts & Nash LLP before joining McAllister Towing and Transportation Company.
Eric M. McAllister is the company's Chief Financial Officer. Eric joined McAllister in 1998. He is also a member of the fifth generation and Brian A. McAllister’s son. Eric is responsible for handling McAllister’s corporate finance, budgeting and accounting. Mr. McAllister graduated from New York University in 1992 with a BA in Economics. From 1992-94 he worked in the Commercial Equipment Finance Division of GE Capital and from 1994-98, Eric worked as Assistant Treasurer of Carolina Barnes Capital, Inc.
Captain A.J. McAllister III is Senior Vice President of Sales. A.J. is another member of the fifth generation and Brian’s nephew. A.J.'s father, Anthony J. McAllister Jr. served as President of the company from 1979-84. Captain A.J. III is a graduate of SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, Class of 1980. He received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Management and an Unlimited Third Mate’s License Any Oceans Any Gross Tons. He also holds a Master of Towing Vessels upon Oceans. He has been employed at McAllister in various capacities since 1981. He served as Mate on seagoing tugs and barges for several years before becoming a Captain on tugs in New York Harbor, at which time he obtained a First Class Pilot’s License of Any Gross Tons for New York Harbor and all its tributaries. Thereafter, he worked as a docking master in New York Harbor and various ports from 1987 to 1998. In August of 1998 he came ashore to work in corporate headquarters. Some of A.J.'s responsibilities include solicitation, procurement and negotiation of all ship assist contracts, including marketing of services to major steamship companies both foreign and domestic.
Wayne Stiles is Vice President of Sales. He studied Economics at the University of New Hampshire and received his B.S. in Marine Transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in 1975. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard License: Master, 500 Tons Third Mate, Oceans. Mr Stiles worked as a Sales Engineer and Representative for maritime companies in New York and Louisiana before coming to McAllister in 1981. He sailed as Mate and Captain with Tidewater Marine in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Stiles is responsible for the marketing of ship assist services in the U.S. East Coast ports McAllister tugs service. Customer service, new business development, and worldwide accounts responsibility are his primary concerns.
